I am so excited to finally share my first Hero’s session with you all! For those of you who have not heard of my hero’s sessions let me tell you why I am so excited about them! My hero sessions are all about telling peoples stories. I believe we are all heroes in our own way. These sessions are all about highlighting the hidden heroes, those that we don’t always see as heroes but who are heroes just the same. Life has struggles and triumphs for each and every one of us. We are all just fighting to survive each day. For some it’s everyday struggles like finding enough time to keep the house clean, drive the kids back and forth from school, work, and properly take care of our families. But for so many those everyday struggles were taken to another level when life threw them a monkey wrench. I want them to know that they are not alone, that there are others dealing with what they are going through and fighting for their children and families every day. To me these people are just as much heroes as anyone else. I’m so excited to share their stories.
Meet Aivy, like so many other moms Aivy was excited about the arrival of her baby. For eight months she prepped and planned for his arrival however in the 8th month of pregnancy Aivy was told her son had a rare genetic disorder called Trisomy 18 and that he would be still born.
When the time came for her son to enter this world however she welcomed a beautiful living son. She was then told that he would not live long, first she was told only a few days or weeks, then she was told he wouldn’t live past his first birthday. This little boy is truely a miracle, his family has had the joy of celebrating three birthdays with him. Aivy is so happy for any time that she gets with him and thankful that he has been with her this long.
It has been a struggle, Aivy told me that he has been hospitalized many times and the he has had to have many surgeries. He is blind and deaf and has to be on oxygen, but his mom has made a commitment to make sure he is a happy baby as long as he is here with her. I got to watch his parents play with and tickle him and see his little face light up! It was beautiful to see them interact together!
Through it all Aivy has managed to put herself through nursing school too make life better for herself and for her family. I am inspired by her strength through it all.
Here are a few of my favorite images from their session. This was the first session she ever had done with her son and I am so glad I was able to bless them with these images.
